The summer before my senior year of high school I read a book called “How to Become a Straight-A Student” By Cal Newport which can be bought here http://www.amazon.com/How-Become-Straight-A-Student-Unconventional/dp/0767922719. At the time he wrote this book, Newport was still around college age so I found his advice realistic but also unorthodox. He subscribed to the notion that to become a student that not only gets good grades but is an all around superstar technique is key. It’s not just how long you study but how you do it. Managing your time and always experimenting with new strategies to try to perfect your method is what allows students to earn fantastic grades but not necessarily put in more time than their peers. This really clicked for me and I think ultimately has shaped my academic career. I think this mindset is a large part of why I have a 3.8 GPA in Accounting while balancing many other involvements and things I am passionate about. Newport also wrote a blog focused on these topics so I decided to write a blog finding one of his posts that interested my and commenting on it from my perspective.
